I had a rough childhood in Chicago in 1986, and I saw Oprah on TV. What struck me was that Oprah talked about “Keep writing,” which inspired me to write. I dropped out of school to help my mother and my younger siblings. We were working in a tobacco field. With Oprah’s words, I kept writing; I had a journal, which eventually became the book. 2017, I decided to have it published into a proper book.

Hardwood Floor is a book about a family of a grandma, a young mama with three girls, and a young brother living in a house with hardwood floors. It was a wooded country house. One little girl remembered the floors were clean and the beds were high with very white sheets where she and her little uncle would play with lightning bugs at night when the house was dark. There were no men in the house. She and her mother would go down to their cousins’ house and dance, so she thought she and her mom would be super team dancers. She knew nothing about the big world and what it takes to be a successful dancer. She kept searching for that loving family or the same treatment and was afraid to have her own place so she could get that kind of treatment.

I might write another book the woman would reflect that I have grown and what I want to be since I love dancing and fashion, but I married and had children at an early age and couldn’t do something about my dreams. I want to encourage people to pursue their dreams in this new book.

I embody hard work since I am a hard worker; I keep trying and trying until I succeed.
