Wynn

Al Wynn is a man whose life story is as diverse and rich as the many roles he has played throughout his decades-long career. From his early days growing up in Georgia to becoming a prominent figure in Chicago, Wynn’s journey is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

As a General Contractor for over 50 years, Wynn built and remodeled homes, leaving a tangible mark on the cityscape of Chicago. His expertise extended beyond construction; he was a manager at The Cryal Hotel and the Contractor’s Chairman for the Black Wall Street of Chicago Newspaper, showcasing his leadership and influence in various sectors.

Wynn’s entrepreneurial spirit also led him to own and operate five restaurants and three lounges. Notably, he was the first Black person to own a lounge in Downtown Chicago, the Painted Lady Lounge, located at State and Congress. This accomplishment alone speaks to his pioneering spirit and determination to break barriers.

In recognition of his contributions, Wynn was inducted into Cambridge University’s Who’s Who, honoring his efforts to teach contracting skills to young Black men and help them secure employment. His dedication to uplifting his community is a consistent theme throughout his life.

After publishing his first book, “Trials and Tribulations of Life,” Wynn expanded his influence into the media, hosting a television show and a weekly radio show to promote his book. These platforms allowed him to share his insights and experiences with a broader audience, further solidifying his role as a community advocate and storyteller.

Wynn’s second book, “Repetitious Occurrences of My Life,” offers a more personal look at his relationships and the lessons he gleaned from them. It’s a continuation of his life story, filled with the same candid reflections and deep understanding that characterize his work.

Despite the challenges and the often harsh realities of his journey, Al Wynn’s life is a beacon of hope and perseverance. His stories are not just about survival but about finding meaning and purpose in every experience. As he continues to share his life with the world, Wynn inspires others to embrace their paths, no matter how winding they may be.
